Swim beach expertise in print and on… podcast?
Each summer, our lake scientists respond to many people who email or call with concerns about their local beaches. We also routinely contribute to news stories about water quality and beach closures. You’ll usually spot one of our experts in print or on TV, but every once in a while, we get the opportunity to share information in a different way: podcasts!
The Science Section’s own Daniel Nidzgorski recently joined the City of Kirkland’s This Week in Kirkland podcast. Listen below to learn about King County’s swim beach monitoring program, goose poop, and tips for finding healthy beaches this summer.
Partners in safer swimming
It takes a lot of work to monitor bacteria, algae, and water temperature at so many beaches. Each summer, experts from the Science Section, King County Environmental Lab, Public Health – Seattle & King County, and city beach managers work together to keep people and pets safe at the lake. This collaborative effort includes weekly summertime water testing, lake beach alerts, beach signage, and answering questions from the public and local media outlets.
